The world’s longest railway tunnel is being built under the Baltic Sea between Denmark and Germany, foreign media reported. The 25-kilometer (16-mile) long route is being built between Fehmarn in Germany and the Danish islands of Lolland and is called the Fehmarnbelt.
The tunnel, which is scheduled to be completed and opened in mid-2029, is expected to reduce travel times between European countries and improve relations between the Scandinavian countries and the rest of Europe, foreign media reported.
The fact that parts of the tunnel will be laid on the seabed and then connected together is a remarkable feat of engineering, its designers have said.
