Scientists have warned that a record-setting rising fire in the Brazilian Amazon basin will have a major impact on the fight against climate change.
In Brazil, 72,843 forest fires have been reported this year, more than half of them related to the Amazon basin.
This is an 80 percent increase from last year, scientists say.
Although the Amazon Forest System is spread over several South American countries, more than two-thirds of it is native to Brazil.
This forest system, which supplies more than 20 percent of the Earth’s oxygen needs, is considered the largest rainforest in the world and is home to countless animals and plant species.
