A woman was elected President in Slovakia for the first time in its history.
Susana Kaputova, who fought against corruption and fraud, became Slovakia’s President. Susana Kaputova, a 45 year old, is an environmental lawyer and social activist.
Susana Kaputova, a newcomer to politics, came to the fore with the assassination of journalist Yan Kusiec. Jan Kusiac, an investigative journalist, was assassinated in February last year. Due to the killing of their two sons, there was a massive wave of protests in Slovakia and therefore the then Prime Minister was forced to leave the country.
Susana Kaputova received 58.4 percent of the presidential election results. Susana Kaputova’s opponent was Marcos Zefkovich of the ruling party. He won only 41.6 per cent of the vote in the presidential election. He is also the European Union’s Energy Commissioner.
