This devale is situated 9 km away from Pinwila Road in Balangoda. It goes to Pinnawala along the main road about 8 miles to Badulla and comes across the temple. Boltethe Devalaya is situated in a beautiful environment at the foot of Dathaggala Hill top of the plateau of Mahavawatenna Plane.
Legends claim that Ravana’s jungle (without the head) was fallen on the floor of the Boltumbe Devale. It is said in the folk legend that the desert plain fell to the area called Olugangtok.
In 1886, the first king of Rajavinist royal throne, the Boltumbu Saman Devalaya hen, was built on the Saman Devalaya in the middle of the temple and built one from the four towers based on the temple built on the fourfold.
It is also an opinion that the Samanthe Devalaya of Boltumba was built to preserve ancient mosques, devala and Portuguese invasions in the Maha Saman Devalaya in Ratnapura.
