Tokyo, Japan recorded the highest number of daily patients since the outbreak of the Covid epidemic yesterday. That number is 2,848. The previous highest number of patients per day in Tokyo was 2,520 on January 7.
The Games Organizing Committee has confirmed that at least 160 of these patients are involved in the Olympic Games.
It is reported that the majority of reported Covid patients are young people who have not been vaccinated against Covid.
With this number of patients, the total number of Covid infections in the country exceeded two hundred thousand.
Despite a state of emergency in Tokyo until August 22, the Tokyo government has decided to hold the Games as scheduled. Health experts in the country warn that the number of people infected with the Covid Delta virus will continue to rise during the Games.
