The New Zealand government has decided to postpone plans to open the country to foreign tourists until the end of February.
Foreign media reports that this decision has been taken due to the rapid global spread of the Omicron variety.
Steps have also been taken to increase the quarantine period from 7 days to 10 days.
In addition, every person arriving in New Zealand must undergo a PCR test 48 hours in advance. New Zealand is set to reopen to foreign tourists next January.
All the data available so far indicate that the omicron variant is still the most highly transmitted Kovid-19 virus variant.
