Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan said he was stabbed after an unknown person entered his 11th-floor apartment in Bandra (West) on Thursday. When Khan woke up, the unknown person had attacked him and fled, and he was found struggling with the intruder, Bandra police said.
The 54-year-old is currently in the operating theatre. Doctors are treating the six stab wounds near the spine.
The incident took place between 2 and 2:30 am when the unknown person barged into the apartment and Khan woke up after hearing a noise. Other members of the actor’s family were also in the apartment when the incident took place.
Khan was taken to Lilavati Hospital in Bandra Reclamation by his elder son Ibrahim and a guardian at around 3 am. “He had six cuts inflicted by a sharp object,” said Dr. Neeraj Uttamani, the hospital’s chief operating officer.
As of 9 am, he was still undergoing surgery by neurosurgeon Dr. Nitin Dang. It is learnt that two of the injuries were deep—one near the spinal cord, and there was a foreign object in it (as seen in the CT scan) and one on the left wrist. The left wrist will require plastic surgery.
“He does not have any life-threatening injuries, but the extent of the damage will be known only after the surgery,” said a doctor.
An unknown person entered actor Saif Ali Khan’s house, said DCP (Zone X) Dixit Gedam. There was a scuffle between the actor and the intruder. The actor is receiving treatment for injuries. Investigations are underway, and three people have reportedly been detained.
“Hearing a commotion, everyone in the house rushed to see the actor. They took him to Lilavati Hospital for treatment,” Bandra Police said.
The Bandra Police team and the Mumbai Crime Branch are investigating the matter. “An investigation has been launched to find out how the intruder managed to evade the security guards of the building or crawled from the other side of the building to reach the actor’s apartment. The team is examining the CCTV footage from the building,” the police said.

Khan was injured during an attempted burglary at his residence, according to his team, which requested media and fans to be patient.
In an official statement released on behalf of the actor, his team said, “There was an attempted burglary at Mr. Saif Ali Khan’s residence. He is currently in hospital undergoing surgery. We request the media and fans to be patient. It is a police matter.”
