Ten years after the Lahore attack, the Sri Lankan cricket team took on a test match with Pakistan. Prior to the Test series, the Sri Lankan team entered the Twenty20 and One-Day Internationals in Pakistan with a series of newcomers and lost the ODI series but won the Twenty20 under the captaincy of Dasun Shanaka. The victory was Sri Lanka’s longest Twenty20 series win and the first time Pakistan defeated Pakistan in the record books.
The SAG tournament ended in Kathmandu, Nepal with India as usual taking the lead on the medal table. Host Nepal came in second while Sri Lanka came in third. Sri Lanka took part in the SAG this year with a thrilling defeat at the Asian Games last year. The eighteenth Asian Games, which gave Sri Lankans many lessons, said winning a fight between 45 countries was not easy. Especially in a country like ours, where the sport has become increasingly difficult to win an international competition, it is no secret that a competition can be difficult. When we look at the rest of the world, it seems that there is nothing that human power cannot do.
Long-term plans should be implemented. The biological factors of the citizens of a country, along with the physical factors of the land, should be used in a manner that overcomes other deficiencies. There are plenty of examples of this. Examples of this are the domination of Africans in the long run and the domination of the American Isles in the long run. When so many other countries plan their way forward for the game based on their identity, strengths and the use of the right technology, it is obvious that we are all ahead of them. Not because of anything else, but because of lack of well-planned plans.
It is no secret that the Sri Lankan athletes joined the concluded SAG Tournament, taking lessons from the Asian Championships that they could not improve their talents with. Sri Lanka’s landscape is unique in that it is unlike any other in the world. Cold is also a factor in this area. It is found when the cold sea level rises 2000 meters. But it is clear that Sri Lanka has no plans to take advantage of this. Environment is the main factor in the failure of any cricket to come out of the country. Particular attention should be given to the use of Nuwara Eliya, which has the right climate factors to hold cricket tournaments in England or New Zealand. Otherwise, the authorities will only have to be fooled into a thug and a lack of planning. This is not just a common factor in cricket, but it is applicable to other sports as well.
If we had a proper plan, we could make an enormous capital annually by utilizing this land, not only for the benefit of Sri Lankans but also for foreigners, rather than building stadiums around the country. These are workers with the right leadership and vision. If you build two indoor and outdoor sports facilities in Nuwara Eliya in the central hills, you can find solutions to the many defeated adversities. But if these plans are implemented for the betterment of Sri Lankan sports, not projects for the sake of each other’s greed, then we have much to do with sports.
It is clear that the government headed by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa wants to do more with the earth. Where Dullas Alahapperuma has been elected as the Minister of Sports, it is worth considering carefully whether or not the SAG Tournament is a success. This year’s SAG Tournament can be stimulated by the commitment, enthusiasm and perseverance of the President as well as the Sports Minister to take on this worthy cause in sports. Officials involved in sports in Sri Lanka should strive to make this occasion a reality. This is because Sri Lanka is hosting the 2021 SAG Games. Working can be allergic to many in this country. It is a common feature not only in Sri Lankan sports but also in every field. That is why we have the whole thing wrong. If the Minister of Sports tries to put in place a permanent program, it will be beneficial for the future. The Sri Lankan game has collapsed in this way because a proper vision, plan and program are still not working properly. Creative workers who have a vision and a plan to work with are also kicked out of the gate because they are just gripping and juggling the gym.
It is also a crime to try to find evidence that Pusson, who has dominated conferences and conferences, lodged in the deadlock of defeat and tried to find something to credit his own accounts with, but not a love of sports. A former sports minister, too, took up the task a long time ago and said he wanted to run at his own pace. It is clear that the same officers still sport the game, but they are playing the game at their own pace. No matter who the Minister of Sports is, these officials who have become the sport of sports have no pretense of playing the game. There is ample evidence in the past that the ministers of the time were also in the presence of the officials who thought this was the only supply. If the Minister of Sports, Dullas Alahapperuma too, was seen in front of such officials, the day would soon be long before he would be able to join the pile.
The decade of 1990-2000 was the period during which the sport was reaped. At that time (1994 – 2000), SB. Dissanayake, the Minister of Sports, summed up all his tastes to him and put everything into one goal, plan and vision. Sri Lanka’s Creative Designer SB Rathnayaka was not limited to the dreams he had dreamed of creating at the National Sports Festival, the National Sports Academy. The former Minister of Sports, Dissanayake managed to amass the resources and manage them all. During the last 10 years, she has been able to produce individual athletes from South Asian, Asian and especially Olympic level events. Thirteen athletes qualified for the 2000 Olympic Games, four of which represented the Olympics. Susanthika Jayasinghe won the Olympic silver medal. That was 52 years in the history of the Olympics. Susanthika Jayasinghe was a singular sports star who won the International Stadium no matter what. If we do not mention that we have a great history like this in 1970-1974. Today, all of this has become a souvenir of the past, and it is in this backdrop that we have achievements like SAG’s.
The sport of our country has decayed since 2000, when it was made into a purely greedy sport. After 2000, everything was toppled by the game’s creators, the knowledgeable ones, and the parasites that live in the game. Put an end to all this. Otherwise, our achievements in the SAG Tournament could be further reduced. We need to nurture our entire sport to the international level. For this, the government must first decide on the existence of a healthy population, as well as the weight of sports, in order to survive. More sacrifice must be made. As a result, the sport of a country is up to international standards.
Where India stands today, with its second and third emerging athletes, it is clear where we stand. When host Nepal comes in second in the SAG, it is clear that the time has come for us to pause and inquire about our legacy of sporting history.
