But unexpectedly, on November 30, Dr. Carlos Arujo-Presa passed away. He was 51 years old.
“He’s a father to me and my brother. He’s our hero. He’s the one who gave us life,” said Andrea Arujo, the doctor’s daughter.
“His support for our family has been immense and he has been able to keep everyone happy,” she said.
Born in El Salvador, Dr. Carlos Arujo-Presa came to the United States in 1994 to further his medical education.
He arrived in Houston in 2001. He worked for about 20 years as a specialist in lung and respiratory diseases.
As soon as the corona disease reared its head in that area, he went ahead and offered to treat the patients.
He first fell ill in October. The doctor left the hospital after recovering but was re-admitted to the hospital in the first week of November.
But this time his condition worsened. As a result, he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Houston Methodist Hospital. A few days later he was fitted with a respirator but his condition did not change.
Dr. Carlos Araujo-Presa lost his chance to return home.
