Tourism has grown rapidly in recent times. Especially since our country was able to eradicate the brutal terrorism of the country, the economy of the country has been crushed for nearly three decades. We have started to attract tourists from around the world.
In the past few years, more than 2 million tourists have visited Sri Lanka during one year. President Maithripala Sirisena has been nominated as Tourism Year 2017, 2018 and 2019 and it is expected that more than 2.5 million tourists will come to Sri Lanka at the end of this year. Tourists arriving in the country are now more attracted to these arrivals and arrivals. Now tourist arrivals are now attracting tourist arrivals. Colombo Port is one of the leading ports in the Asia-Pacific region and is one of the leading ports in the Asia-Pacific region, with a significant contribution to the development of tourism.
According to the information provided by Sri Lanka Ports Authority there are 45 tourist ships en route to Colombo port during the past 10 months. During the past 10 months, only 35 cruise ships have arrived in Sri Lanka, resulting in a year-on-year growth of 28.6 percent. There are also tourist arrivals not only to the Colombo harbor, but also to the ports that are located in Galle, Trincomalee and Hambantota, and passenger ships from various countries are now coming to the country. During the past 58 boats had arrived at these ports.
These ports, including the Port of Colombo, are strategically utilized geographically, on the continent of Asia, Africa and Australia. These ports have undoubtedly been of great significance to the development of the country’s tourism industry.
It is also estimated that a passenger terminal will be constructed within the Colombo Port with modern facilities and modern infrastructure that will provide more and more facilities for tourists visiting Sri Lanka.
There is no doubt that the Ports Authority chairman Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake, along with the management of the Ports Authority, is now in the process of attracting most of the cruise liners from Sri Lanka.
Mahinda Samarasinghe who served as the Minister of Ports and Shipping in the recent past has become a gigantic shadow of all the victories of the Sri Lankan ports including the Colombo Port and the other main portfolios.
With the exception of passenger ships, the container port facility at Colombo Port has recorded a 19.5 per cent increase in container freight operations during the first ten months of this year.
Under the MoU, the IKT, SAGT and CICT are jointly operating under the Memorandum of Understanding to upgrade the Colombo port. Various steps have been taken to attract all stakeholders and organizations to promote the Colombo Port internationally.
According to Aiphaliner, Colombo’s main cargo shipping operations in the first half of 2018 are among the top 30 ports in the world. Moreover, according to the Drewry port connectivity index, the Colombo port is Asia’s most connected port.
The Port of Sri Lanka has also won its award in the Port of Sri Lanka’s Port of Sri Lanka with the prestigious “Port Authority” award presented by the Global Port Forward (GPF).
