The Court of Appeal yesterday issued summons to the petitioner to consider the 15-year-old girlfriend Nihara Weerawansa for removing her from the Sri Lankan team for the Junior Tennis Association tournament in Thailand.
Kumudini Wickramasinghe and Arjuna Obeysekera issued this order.
The Deputy Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena appearing for the respondent Sports Minister has informed the Courts that the petitioner has been instructed to admit the petitioner to the junior Tenis Sangayman Cup Competition Cup competition to be submitted to the Sri Lanka Tennis Federation.
Responding to a question raised by the court, the Deputy Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena said that a person named Asanga Seneviratne had been removed from the team after completing a complaint to the Sports Minister.
The Deputy Solicitor General of the Government stated that the petitioner Nihara Weerawansa was trained in Spain and that she did not qualify to represent Sri Lanka.
However, the Deputy Solicitor General of the Government informed that the Minister of Sports has agreed to settle these issues.
However, attorney for Asanga Seneviratne has been named as the fourth respondent in the case saying his clients are protesting against the petition.
Accordingly, the Court of Appeal will review it tomorrow.
