It is a place where there is a sand dune that does not endure fruitful fruitfulness. The tops of the earth are a groundless bush that has no oily trees and has no oily trees. A place where you can not find a drop.
But it was a land that was valuable for war between the two countries. It was a land of immense political history.
The total land area known to Sri Lankans in Kachchativu or Kachchaduwa is about 95 acres. Or 1.15 square kilometers.
This Kachchawuwa is part of the land belonging to Sri Lanka. But for some time it was controlled by India. As previously mentioned, decades ago India and Sri Lanka made a mistake because of the poor acreage of the island on the island of Eighty five acres.
Kachchanuwatte, located about two kilometers away from the Indian Ocean, has been forty-five nautical miles from Kankesanthurai in Sri Lanka. India has fourteen nautical miles from Rameshwaram.
The Delft Divisional Secretary is also the remote administration of the island on Kachchuwatu Delft, east of Delft island east of Rameshwaram and the island’s inhabited island. But there is hardly anything to live without a folk life. On the islands of the North, the South and the West, the white belt. A small thorn throat. East corner of the reef.
On the other hand, there is only one permanent building except a small base of the Sri Lanka Navy which has no human habitat. It’s the church dedicated to St Anthony’s Sisters. Today, this church sees the eye of Kachchativu in the whole world.
It is said that the name of a named Porchi Anthony was the foundation for the construction of the Church of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kachchativu. He is a rain fisherman on Delft island. When he went to sea with his friends and two fishermen, he was caught by a storm and the boat was sinking. They were carried away with a sandy island without human population. Fishermen engaged in a battle between life and death prayed to St. Anthony the Savior.
If they were fortunate enough to save themselves from death and go to the villages without any hesitation, they would hand over a church to St. Anthony’s relatives. The storm passed away three days later. The fishermen returned to their villages. The three sisters, Prince of Anthony, came here and built a small church on the St. Anthony’s Sisters. Thousands of devotees come from India and Sri Lanka for the service today.
Each year, the Kachchativu feast is held in mid-March. This time it was held on the 16th. About 5,500 Indian pilgrims and over 6500 Sri Lankan devotees from Negombo, Chilaw, Colombo, Weliweriya and Jaffna have participated in the event, according to the navy.
The Kachchativu feast was held only in small numbers during the 30 year war. But after the ceasefire, and after the end of the war in 2009, it was a feast of thousands of devotees. But this time it was the temple that was in a dilapidated church.
The Archbishop of Jaffna, Dr. Justin Ghanapragasam pointed out the need for a new chancellery, at the then Naval Commander Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunewardena who was present at the Kachchativu Feast in 2016. Accordingly, the Navy started building a new Mosque at Kachchativu’s old churches. The foundation stone was laid on 9th May 2016. On the same day, the building was handed over to the Jaffna city of Jaffna on December 23.
On the 16th of this month, the new temple was built in the newly built temple.
Rev. Fr. Justin Gnanapragasan, Rev. Jaffna was the chief guest at this year’s religious service in Sinhala and Tamil.
Rev. Rev. Fr. Lorruraj, who arrived from Tamil Nadu on this occasion, was also the chief guest of the Rev. Fr. Robinson Weerasinghe.
Commander of the Navy, Admiral Ravindra Wijegunawardena, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal de Silva, Commander of the Navy, Rear Admiral Merrill Wickramasinghe, Indian Consul General, S. Sr. Balachandran and many others were present.
Journalists were able to record the event under the patronage of the Sri Lanka Navy. For this, F. it. From the Kankasanthurai Thomarathne, the commander of the Commander of the Commander Prasad Vithanage directly contributed. The distance from the Kankesanthurai jetty is four and a half hours.
We got off at 2.30 in the morning and landed at Kachchanduwa around seven o’clock in the morning.
For the service, Sri Lanka and India will come from the previous day. The island will become a separate administrative unit for these two days. A separate police station for these two days is a separate court, a separate hospital, a separate bank, an immigration office.
Temporary shed shelters built for these two days. Temporary toilet system. The Navy had transported Kachchaduwa from Kankesanthurai to about five liters of water for this year’s ceremony. However, the devotees say that it has the lowest water and toilet facilities.
Karees, from Velakandy, in Tamil Nadu, India, said: “The lack of toilets that women can not come with.”
He has participated for the first time in the Kachchativu feast twice a year. “I am contracting masons to build an architect named Anthony. During the past year, I became a vengeance. For three months, she got a job in the government. Therefore, I must present this oath this time.
Two, two, three, and three non-wounded women have come, “he says. But, if he does not, his wife will not be taken again. This is because of the above difficulty.
When walking on the island, it should be kept away from the road and this cavity should be cautious. After two days of festival, devotees leave the island for weeks to “scent”.
Robert Denzil of Dematagoda, a fish trader, is also attending the Kachchativu feast every year. He had arrived at Kachchanduwa from a five-day boat trip from Jaffna to Kurukatawan. He has to pay 350 rupees for one trip to the boat. But a devout from India must pay a thousand rupees.
Robert Denzil also says that the only difficulty is toilets. “Those who came this time from India are very low. The reason is this, “he says. When I go back to Kariyakuttavan, I prefer to go in one go in front of him, “he says.
However, there were traders from Sri Lanka and India. For these two days. All of them say that there are no business traders who say that there are not only mobile vendors but also beggars from India for these two days. Their income is good for both days. It was not difficult to distinguish between Sri Lankan beggar and Indian beggar. This was because of the increase in the number of Lankadeen miners and the higher the Indian rupee, mostly Sri Lankan rupees and Indian beggars.
There was a mobile hospital run by the hospital staff at Kayts Island. It was always filled with people. At the end of the day, one of its employees could know that three thousand people had received treatment for the 15/16 two days. Most of them are Indians.
However, the Sri Lanka Navy is in the forefront of providing all facilities for Indian and Sri Lankan pilgrims. This time they start work for this year on the 17th of February. At first, twenty officers went there, and when the ceremony began, there were about 500 members of naval forces.
Kachchatuwu was received in Sri Lanka
Kachchativu, Sri Lanka’s most talked-about island, is on the border of the Indian waters.
According to history, the Kachchativu island was first discovered in 1605 by Emperor Seruthi who ruled Ramanathapu (later in Madras) in India. Since then the Kachchativu island has been under Indian control.
No questions were raised about the island in the days when India and Sri Lanka were under the British rule, but these little Sand Powders right after that emerged. Nevertheless, during the Second World War, the Governor of Sri Lanka has obtained orders from the Allied Forces to conduct Naval Shooting exercises on the island.
This island was a headache for both countries because this is a hub for drug trafficking between the two countries. Therefore, the two countries lost a huge tax due.
1965-66 Every year in March, this island is a haven for parasitic smuggling, according to the Government Agent of Jaffna. At this time, Indian, copper, brass, sarees and sarongs are being smuggled from India, and they carry sugar, canned fish, arrack, torches and batteries from Ceylon. The other question was kallintonin.
In 1965 the police arrested 148 persons who had been caught in Katchitheevu and they had to take a quick decision on the right of this little island.
However, the foundation of the transfer of the island to Sri Lanka fell in 1964 under the Sirima Shastri pact.
But with the defeat of the Sirimavo Bandaranaike government in 1965, it was under that effort. It came back in January 1974. It is between Prime Minister of India Sirima Bandaranaike and Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Accordingly, on June 26th that year, India handed over the island to Sri Lanka by India.
But Karunanidhi, the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, did not want to give Kachchawo to Sri Lanka. The meeting was held with Prime Minister Premadasa subject to two conditions and handed over the island to Sri Lanka.
It is for the people of Tamil Nadu to allow the arrival of the St. Anthony’s saints’ feast and the provision of lands for fishing.
In 2008, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jeyalalitha Jayaram went to the Supreme Court saying that Indira Gandhi had given Kachchaduwa to Sri Lanka illegally. The response of the Government of Sri Lanka was that the Indian Court had no jurisdiction over the island.
However, in the face of objections by Jeyalalitha, Indian Attorney-at-Law Mukul Rohan, the then mayor, said that the island should be re-warned if necessary. The Indian court also dismissed the objections of the Indian court that their country did not have a recapitalization.
The Lanka flag in Kachchuwe is still poised.
