For the convenience of believers planning weekend trips to the sacred city of Anuradhapura from Colombo, the Railway Department will launch a luxury train service. This opulent train will depart Colombo Fort for Anuradhapura on Saturday, August 8, at 9.20 am.
The only stations the train will stop at are Gampaha, Veyangoda, and Polgahawela. It is expected to arrive in Anuradhapura at roughly 1:00 p.m.
Devotees on that train will be able to visit the Atamasthana (eight sacred sites) in Anuradhapura on that day and can also participate in the “Kiripidu Pooja” held at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi grounds the following morning.
The train will thereafter depart from Anuradhapura Railway Station for Colombo at 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 9, and is expected to arrive at Colombo, Fort Railway Station before 10:00 PM on that same day.
