In the second round of the Cricket World Cup’s Super 12 round, New Zealand defeated Namibia by 52 runs in Sharjah yesterday afternoon.
The victory gave New Zealand a chance to play in six semi-finals.
Namibia batted first and only managed 111 for seven in 20 overs to chase down New Zealand’s 164-run mark.
Namibia’s best scorer was Michael Van Lincoln, who scored 25 runs, while Tim Southee and Trent Bolt each got two wickets.
In the final six overs, Glenn Phillips and James Neesham added 76 runs (36 balls) for the fifth wicket, bringing the total to 163. Phillips scored 39 off 21 balls, including three fours and three sixes, while Neesham scored 35 off 23 balls, including two fours and two sixes. Kane Williamson, the captain, was bowled for 28 runs, while the rest of the batsmen failed to reach the 20-run barrier.
