25-year-old Australian tennis player Ashley Barty has won her maiden Wimbledon title.
In the women’s singles final at Wimbledon in London, 29-year-old Crodika Carolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic lost 2-1 to Barty. The score was 6-3, 6-7, and 6-3. This is the first time that Pliskova, ranked 13th in the world, has reached the Wimbledon final.
This is the first time Barty has been ruled out of last month’s French Open due to injury. Therefore, she says, this victory is unbelievable and a miracle.
This is Barty’s second Grand Slam title, winning his first Wimbledon title. She became the number one player in the 2019 World Women’s Tennis Rankings and won her first Grand Slam title, winning the women’s singles event at the French Open that year.
With this victory, Barty went down in history as the first Australian to win the Wimbledon title after 41 years. Before her, Australia’s Avon Gulangong Kavli won the Wimbledon title in 1980.
Meanwhile, the men’s singles final of the tournament was scheduled to be played yesterday between world number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Matteo Beratini of Italy.
