India won the second Test against England by 317 runs to lift the ICC World Cup final hopes again.
After losing the first match between the two teams, the Indian team dropped from the first position to the fourth position. But with the win in the second match, India was able to move up to the second position in the bonus points table again.
Leading the bonus points table, England dropped to fourth place in the second round with this defeat. Following this competition, India’s winning percentage increased from 68.3 percent to 69.7, while England’s percentage dropped from 70.2 to 67.0 percent.
New Zealand (70.0%) have already secured a place in the final of the ICC World Test Championship, and their opponents will be decided by the England-India series.
Accordingly, India need to win one of the remaining two matches in the tournament to advance to the final. That means ending the tournament 2-1. However, they should not be defeated in the other match.
England must win the remaining two matches to advance to the final, beating India.
However, third-placed Australia (69.2%) still have a chance to look forward to the final of the tournament. For that to happen, the remaining two matches must end without a solution. Or if India and England win one match each, Australia will have an advantage as the tournament will end in a draw.
Meanwhile, South Africa, which had slipped to sixth place after losing the series to Pakistan, has now slipped another place.
The West Indies are currently sixth with 33.3 percent. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are in 8th and 9th place respectively.
