Iran’s senior nuclear scientist Mosheen Fakhrizadeh has been assassinated in a city near the country’s capital.
Fakrizadeh was assassinated in Absard, Damawand, near Tehran.
Condemning the killing, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called it a “state-sponsored act of terrorism.”
Western intelligence says Fakhrisadeh is the mastermind behind Iran’s covert nuclear weapons program.
The nuclear scientist was traveling in his car when he was shot by a group of people.
He was wounded and four assailants were killed in retaliation by his bodyguards.
Four Iranian nuclear scientists have been killed between 2010 and 2012, and Iranian authorities have blamed Israel.
