And almsgiving is another. Giving is another. Not everything that is given becomes a gift. The almsgiving is divided into three parts. That is,
Amisa Dana is known as Abhayana Dana and Dharma Dana.
Amisa Dana is considered by some in today’s society as almsgiving. When giving alms, what is given as alms (deyamdhamma) should be a virtue of one’s own sweat. The religion shows that what is earned by the ungodly is less than the gift of alms giving. No matter what the motive, the giving of one’s greed is not exaggerated. While intention is essential in the Amis almsgiving, the way in which the gift is earned is also very important.
There is nothing wrong with being grossly violent. If a person or animal can be emancipated from death, it is a meritorious gift that is much more than amisa alms. However, he does not get any trophies if he receives some money or anything to do so after giving his sanctuary. Leading beyond all alms is merit.
Dharma is the right and true thing. To teach it to others is Dhamma. Dhamma Dana is more attainable than all other alms. The activities of people living in the society can be divided into four sections for ease of study.
Good work with good thinking, good work with good thinking, good work with bad thinking, bad work with bad thinking
While the first and fourth of these points can be understood, the second and third are sometimes problematic. It must be understood.
The evil deeds of good thinking can be explained in one incident.
A young boy has been found at a magisterial inquiry at the Colombo Magazine Prison. He had been sentenced to life in prison for possession of heroin and possession of alcohol. Though he was physically exhausted due to the use of drugs, it was understood that he was a child of a Buddhist background, receiving a Dhamma school education and schooling.
He continued to accuse his mother of “why the son was here.” He declared that he was being jailed today for his mother’s mistakes. He repeated to himself that he was the one who brought the required amount of drugs to the prison and that his mother was a good person because of him.
The meaning of the story was that he had been an abuser of his mother’s guilt, and that his mother had never seen the good in him. Even though he scored the exam, his mother was not good enough. No matter how much she studies at home, she does not see them.
What she sees is nothing less. As a child, she was resentful. As a result, the mother, however dearly loved, never felt worth it. Since Dad had married another child, he thought that he would look after himself, but it was rare for a mother to see his own shortcomings. Smoking, for the powder itself, was drawn. There are evil deeds that I have done. Sitting in prison. I am the only mother. She’s the only one I have.
Mother always brings me the drug I need in prison. Parents who raise children should give their children the advice they need, not according to what they give to their friends, but to the mental state of their children. Parents who fail to understand the psychological state of the child may also lose their future.
Adopting a child as a good person is a good motive, but one must wisely consider how to implement that noble motive. The mother’s intentions were good, but the only way to achieve that was because of the bad behavior of her only child, who is now in prison.
Good work done with bad intentions is seen frequently in our society.
