Sri Lanka is one of the most beautiful countries in the world with a proud history. Sri Lanka is rich in natural beauty and ancient history. As citizens of this country we have the right to learn and know the history of our country. It is one of the most significant events in the history of Sri Lanka.
We have learned many things about this historical event in the school and the Dhamma school. In quizzes like General Knowledge and Dhamma Knowledge, we were asked, “Where was the reign of the Tripitaka written?” The same is true today. But with a very important work recently published, it is possible to think again about where the Tripitaka was written. He was a retired education officer and former principal. R. With the book “Tripitaka Not Written at Matale Aluvihara…” by Gunawardena Banda.
The author has examined 28 factors in the archaeological, historical and literary sources and found that the Tripitaka was recorded in a place called “Alulena” in Attanagoda, not in the Matale ash temple but in the Matale area. According to his reasoning, anyone reading the book understands that these facts are true. It has been emphasized that the Matale ash vihara area is not sufficient for 500 Buddhist monks to gather and sign. You should understand that this article is not about the author or his work, but for the purpose of knowing the truth.
Prof. Senarath Paranavithana published in the book “Lanka History” of the University of Ceylon. I have mentioned before that this has helped to prove the facts Professor Nandasena Mudiyanse has the introduction of the University of Kelaniya under funded.
The people of the country have the right to know the history of a country. It is imperative to know the truth, especially in such a magnificent event. Therefore, it is my view that this issue should be resolved by a panel.
Answer by Dr. Senarath Dissanayake, Commissioner of Archeology
The main idea is that the writing of the Tripitaka was done in the Ashoka Viharaya in Matale. But there’s another idea. That a Tripitaka was recorded at Attanagoda Alullena, near Kegalle.
The word Alulena is used for places of prehistoric value. The reason was that during that time, there were animals in the caves. When humanity has been inhabited for a long time, thousands of years of fire have resulted in a large layer of ash. They’re called new. It is wrong to equate the writing of the Tripitaka with the word ‘Alulen’. There are places like Kegalle, Matale and Mee Murray, Buttala which are used for alulena
There are several caves around the Matale Aluva. They are made of granite. C. BC. 2nd century AD The. There are inscriptions on the caves of Aluvihare parallel to this incident that took place between the 1st century BC. There is evidence that the historical period was used as a monastery in Matale. There is no such evidence in the ashes of Kegalle. Also, there is no adequate evidence to prove that this incident has taken place in the Asha Viharaya in Matale.
