Sri Lanka’s engineers have taken a major step forward by donating the largest ship ever built in Sri Lanka for Japan.
This is a high-tech cable ship designed for landing.
The ship, dubbed KDDI Cable Infinite, was manufactured by Colombo Dockyard for Kokusai Cable Ship (Pvt) Ltd., Japan.
This was the largest ship ever built in the country’s history.
It will be able to carry out deep sea operations, seabed wiring and repairs across continents, and the specialty is that the vessel will be able to get out of the deep sea with both communications and power lines.
The vessel is 113.1 meters in length, 21.5 meters in width and 8.8 meters deep and has a maximum sinking capacity of 7.1 meters at 5757 tons.
The vessel is fully equipped with a crew of 80 and is capable of sailing at 14.5 miles per hour.
The KDDI Cable Infinite vessel which is scheduled to sail to Japan today (22) was officially handed over to Japan with the participation of ministers and parliamentarians.
Colombo Dockyard PLC has partnered with Onomichi Japan, a 51% subsidiary of Japan’s Onomichi Corporation and 35% of Sri Lanka’s state-owned enterprises.
