To get an important place in the history of Sri Lanka, the Dambulla Rock Temple is more than 2 200 years old. The Rangiri Dambulla Viharaya, a place of good evidence for the history of our land, was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Dambulla Rock cave temple is spread all over the country for hundreds of years and is known for being a sacred place for pilgrims. The cave system of this temple is by far the largest and most well-preserved temple complex in Sri Lanka.
There are five caves filled with murals, murals, fine stone statues and caves. It is a great place to watch the history of Sri Lanka. This Rangiri Dambulla Cave Vihara attracts thousands of tourists.
In addition to religious value, the area has a strong connection to the ancient Sri Lankan politics. From the Chola invasion in the first century, King Walagamba managed to escape and live in hiding places in the history books. After 15 years of his reign, the first task was to make these caves a precious cave temple.
It is also mentioned that a number of kings who ruled the country after King Walagamba developed the cave temple to the present. At present, 157 Buddha statues and 2100 square meters (22,600 square feet) are seen in the Rangiri Dambulu Maha Viharaya and Buddhist murals are on display.
Even though it is a world heritage that is so culturally religious and culturally important, it is a matter of concern that the Rangiri Dambulu Len Viharaya can be removed from the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
The main reason for this is that the maintenance work was not done properly and the construction of the ruins of the cave temple is being carried out in the vicinity. We hope that the Government of Sri Lanka will soon act to protect the cave temple so that it can change the sleeping response of the Sri Lankan Government and see future generations.
