Sri Lanka won the first match
Afghanistan won the toss in the World Cup with Sri Lanka. Afghanistan’s captain invited Sri Lanka to bat first.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat where they put up a score of 201 runs for the loss of all wickets.
Afghanistan’s target was to score 187 runs in 41 balls. Afghanistan scored 152 runs for the loss of all wickets. Sri Lanka won the match by 34 runs.
The Sri Lankan team is still unfamiliar with playing 50 overs. Accordingly, rain interrupted the Sri Lanka team.
Kusal Janith and Dimuth Karunaratne gave the Sri Lankan team a breakthrough, but the middle order captain failed again. Lahiru Thirimanne, Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews put pressure on Sri Lanka in the opening one-day international.
