The Duruthu Perahera was planned to be held on the same day
Among the poems is a well-known poet, the KelaniNasi. The poem of this poem is well known. It is always remembered as the same as the Kelani Vihara.
Pasan Gautama Buddha was in the world of Buddhas
Those with the Hensonites also go with him to kill him
It’s easy to get up and down with it
No sins made from birth are done even once
This verse comes from the Editor’s Khan’s Harlem book written in 62 books written in the Kandyan era.
There are a number of books on Kelaniya’s legend. DC Wijayawardene (DR Wijewardene’s brother) wrote the “Here” Kelaniya book. In addition Thiranagama Rathanasara Thera and Ven. Bambarndde Sirisivali Thero have written writing papers on the Kelaniya and Kelani Viharaya. Dayananda Gunawardena has been identified as the Sinhala playwright in search of a drama of a local drama and has given information about Kelaniya and the Kelani Viharaya in his Madura Javanica appendix. It says about Kelaniya:
Kelaniya can be mentioned as one of the oldest trade cities in Sri Lanka. It is an umbrella that nuns lived in the West and in the North and that the demons lived in the East and the diviners in the mountains. Accordingly, Kelaniya could have been a center for boats. After Ravana’s end, the Sri Lankan capital of Lankapura changed to Kelaniya. It was after Vibhhrisnah was given authority by Rama.
Another opinion is that Kalyana’s merchants were Kalmyana’s new businessmen who had migrated to Sri Lanka. It should be especially noted here that the Kelaniya Mayor was regarded as the main city of the Maya and that Dutugemunu’s mother’s mother joined the Vihara Mahadeviya Kelaniya.
Before joining the play, Dayananda Gunawardena is a brilliant teacher. He is an Honors Degree in Geography from the University of Ceylon. So his knowledge could have contributed to the design. He says Kalyani means Priyankara. Prof. Paranavithana has also pointed out that Gunawardena who is known as Kalyani was a neighborhood close to Tissamaharama in India and elsewhere in Sri Lanka.
After eight years of Buddha’s Enlightenment, the Buddha had arrived in Kelaniya with five thousand monks on invitation from Maniakkhitha Nayaka Thera. It seems that the Kelaniya Stupa, which was built on the sacred towers of the Kelaniya Viharaya, was a grasshopper. The Kelaniya Stupa was built by King Vathiwatthi II, King Vathiyasa, and his nephew, Yatalatissa kings. The ultimate development of the Kelani Vihara was done by Keerthi Sri Rajasingha, written by Ven. Wijayawardena at the Buddhist Stupa in Kelaniya and Theranagama.
On the 8th of February, 1953, the Lankadeepa had published the first page titled Kelaniya Duruthu Eda Perahara Bakkaya. According to the news, the newspaper had decided to cut a road up to 80 feet width until the Viharaya.
“The government has given the service of the town’s architect Oliver Weerasinghe to the Kelani Vihara for the purpose of arranging the travel of the Maha Sangha, which is being held yearly by the vihara area.
The highway that has fallen from the Kelani Viharaya according to the original plan, which is at the cost of Rs 30,000. Now this temple road leading to the temple will be made to fall back. At the same time it is intending to cut a distance of 80 feet from the sixth mile post on the Kandy road and to cut a new road up to the Kelani Viharaya. ”
It was reported in Lankadeepa on Sunday.
According to the newspaper, the government has taken this concern as a result of the fact that the obstacles close to the temples are not burdensome to the gathering people a year. The report concluded as follows:
“Now Senior Superintendent of Archeology Dr. Senarath Paranavithana, Mr. Oliver Weerasinghe, and Mr. Mapithigara Buddharakkitha Thera of the Vihara, Mr. V. Dahanayake. Mr. Wijewardene also discusses the reorganization of the Kelaniya Temple with the government. ”
The foundation stone of the new Kelani Temple is by Helena Wijewardena. The Kelaniya Perahera too began on the same month. Helen Wijewardene who made a great contribution to the development of the Kelani Vihara, She was DR. Wijewardene was the mother of well-wishers. Don Philip Wijewardene Muhandiram was the father.
The procession of the Duruthu celebration has been in existence for some time and has been held some years ago in 1953. The Chief Incumbent Buddharakitha Thero said that the main reason for changing the streets of Kelaniya is for the devotees attending the feast of prayers being held at the Duruthu celebration, as well as the interruption of the procession to the sacred tooth relics of the Kelani Raja Maha Viharaya.
The prime minister said that during the Perahera, the most exquisite holiday period was spent on the Sinhala holiday in the new holiday period.
The Perahera of the Duruthu month is being held in various parts of Sri Lanka and the Kelani Perahera too was held in that month and many were prevented from viewing it. The Kelaniya Maha Perahera, which was held for several days from 13th to 18th April in Sinhala, was proposed as a national festival. The Sunday Lankadeepa report on Sunday said:
“The Sinhala Year will be the veneration of the Viharaya for the two-year service. Conventions and customs are held at the entrance of the temple. Many of the countryside people have come to know this true genuine blessing. The Chief Incumbent of the Kelaniya Perahera says that the addition of the Kelani Perahera to this Duruthu Ceremony will greatly enhance the significance of the Sinhala New Year festival.
Meanwhile, it is a matter of making this Kelani Sangha a suitable place for the Kelaniya area, and now the government and the Kelani Vihara are interested in contributing. The government has given the service of the town’s architect Oliver Weerasinghe to the Kelani Vihara for the purpose of preparing the people’s vistas, vistas and vistas of the vihara area every year. ”
Accordingly, it appears that the Kelani Viharaya is a direct link with our people’s life.
